Meetings Africa 2022: A Great Success for Mauritius Tourism

Meetings Africa 2022 has come and gone, but what a wonderful experience it was to reconnect with people in the industry again to catch-up, share ideas and discuss future projects and events.

The Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) stand (F14) was buzzing throughout the two-day event, and it was clear that meeting in person again has been sorely missed over these past two Covid-affected years.

The MTPA shared the stand with eight enthusiastic partners from Mauritius – Air Mauritius, Hello Islands DMC, Constance Resorts / C Mauritius, Heritage Resorts / Rogers Hospitality, InterContinental Mauritius Resort, le Meridien Ile Maurice / Marriott Hotels, Maritim Resorts and The LUX* Collective.

Their diaries were filled up from start to finish, and they were all extremely complimentary about the event organisation, adherence to health and safety protocols, and the overall quality calibre of attendees from the hosted buyers to local attendees.

The Director of MTPA, Mr Arvind Bundhun, attended the event on the first day. He welcomed the South African Minister of Tourism, Ms Lindiwe Sisulu, to the stand, placing a colourful lei around her neck to celebrate the reopening of the borders between Mauritius and South Africa in early January.

“South Africa remains one of Mauritius’s main source markets, ranking fifth in importance after France, Réunion, the UK and Germany. Its proximity (a short four-hour flight), the increasing direct air connections between the two countries, and the fact that there is no language barrier all add to its value,” said Bundhun.

“Mauritius is open for business, it is ready to be discovered now, and we look forward to welcoming back our South African travellers. For travel now, health and safety protocols are the new luxury, and Mauritius ticks all the boxes.”
