Collaborations are fundamental to Cape Town and the Western Cape’s latest destination value proposition

The Cape Town and the Western Cape Convention Bureau, a division of Wesgro, is pioneering a new initiative
to tap into the potential of the region’s knowledge economy. LEAD (The Leadership Excellence Initiative) is an
initiative to position the Western Cape as a leading knowledge hub and business leader in Africa.

Emphasising the region’s expertise, LEAD will draw on its partners to strategise a co-ordinated approach in
positioning the destination as a knowledge and business centre on the continent. The initiative seeks to facilitate
collaborative actions (networking, events, communications and advisory panels) between government, the
academic ecosystem and the private sector, creating an attractive value proposition to peers globally.

The destination’s strength has always been its ability to offer attractive investment opportunities, ease of doing
business, reliable infrastructure, world-class hotel and conferencing facilities and an exceptional tourism offering.
But the Western Cape is a place of more. It leads in innovation, technology, sustainability, and excellence. The
region is home to three of South Africa’s leading and world-renowned universities and three globally acclaimed
specialist, research, and teaching hospitals. The region has multiple tech hubs, business incubators and research
laboratories and has a multi-tiered economic strategy focussed on the Digital Economy, the Green Economy, and
the Oceans Economy to name but a few of the additional unique value propositions of the destination.

“Our leaders, innovators, researchers and world-class facilities are some of the reasons why we stand out as a
leading knowledge hub in Africa. LEAD is an initiative that will drive cross-sectoral collaboration and partnerships,
contributing to the Western Cape’s recovery strategy and maintaining its business events leadership position in
Africa.” states Wrenelle Stander, CEO of Wesgro.

“The LEAD initiative will foster coordinated responses from local public and private professionals through an
aligned narrative to position the destination’s collective strengths and ultimately creating opportunities for
leading future meetings and events in the Western Cape. We invite you to be part of the LEADERSHIP initiative.
Share your expertise and draw the attention of your peers to where great minds meet” concludes Monika Iuel,
CMO of Wesgro.
