Travel with a Purpose

Tuesday 05 October 2021

11:30 AM – 12:30 PM (Nairobi)

The Purpose of Travel is being redefined. In MKTE2021’s Travel with A Purpose Power Panel, our experts take the conversation of responsible tourism and sustainability further than what we understood prior to the pandemic.

Our global travel community has had time to reflect on the reasons why we travel.

It’s not just about giving back to the environment, but rather a focus on meaningful research

projects for community upliftment, conservation that has tangible benefits and economic growth in a tourism destination through creating jobs and employment.

We discuss the role that individual travellers can play, through the fulfilment of purposeful travel, as they realise their African dream.

Join moderator Fiona Jefferey as she speaks with Jonathan Scott, former BBC, Big Cat diaries presenter, renowned photographer and Lion conservation ambassador for Kenya Wildlife Trust in the Mara; Jono Vernon-Powell, founder and managing director of Nomadic Thoughts (Worldwide Travel), a multi-award-winning travel company, specialising in bespoke travel itineraries worldwide; and Collin Murray, the Executive Director of One Horizon, whose model of sustainable and responsible tourism has gained an international reputation for supporting Kenya’s communities in need and providing unique and memorable experiences for travellers.

Digitisation of Destinations

Tuesday 05 October 2021

14:30 PM – 15:30 PM (Nairobi)

In MKTE2021’s Digitization of Destinations Power Panel we hear from industry experts from across the globe about digitisation and its impact on the travel industry. In our fast-moving, digital world, we look at using innovative digital tools to entice travellers to visit our continent. How do we grab the attention of our audience – trade and consumer – in unique and clever ways to boost the visibility of our destination via meaningful apps and strategic social media.

Our destination marketing specialists will present their concepts and award-winning campaigns that have had a direct impact on tourist arrivals.

Join our moderator William Price (SA) Founder of #HACKTOURISM and Digital Marketing Maverick, Irene Katumo,  Marketing Manager for the Emerging Markets (India, China and the GCC ) at the Kenya Tourism Board; David Germain, Seychelles Tourism Board Regional Director for Africa & the Americas; and Monika Iuel,  Chief Marketing Officer at Wesgro, the Official Tourism, Trade, Investment and Film Agency for Cape Town and the Western Cape as they unpack and share case studies of how the industry is leveraging new technologies during the Covid-19 pandemic.
