Southern Africa 360 has designed a series of custom-made itineraries, catering for travellers with special needs.

“South Africa as a tourist destination is able and has been ready for some time to accommodate travellers with special requirements, and most major attractions and facilities across the country can be counted on to accommodate visitors with disabilities,” says Collin Thaver, Managing Director of Southern Africa 360.

The two private guided itineraries, the nine-day Cape Highlights and the 12-day Cape Town to Addo Circular, both provide accommodation that is wheelchair friendly and accessible. Furthermore, a 13-seat Quantum is used for the duration of the tours, equipped with hydraulic lifts for mobility-impaired clients. The lift has a lifting capacity of 350 kilograms, and is suitable for electric wheelchairs. Unwin mounting systems are used on the floors to keep wheelchairs secured.

The nine-day Cape Highlights tour includes Cape Town, the Garden Route, the Cape Winelands and a safari at Aquila Game Reserve, offering a Big Five game-viewing experience in a fully equipped wheelchair-friendly game-viewing vehicle. All the must-see attractions and destinations between Cape Town and the Garden Route are covered in the tour.

Accommodation on the tour includes the Commodore Hotel in Cape Town for three nights, Protea Hotel by Marriott Knysna Quays for two nights in Knysna, and one night each in Mooiplaas Guest House in Oudtshoorn, Aquila Private Game Reserve & Spa, and Spier Hotel in Stellenbosch.

The 12-day Cape Town to Addo Circular is a round trip, starting and ending in Cape Town, and includes Cape Town’s must-see destinations and attractions, such as Hermanus, Knysna, the Garden Route, a malaria-free safari in both Addo Elephant National Park and on a private reserve, as well as a farm stay in the Overberg, ending in Cape Town.

Accommodation on the Cape Town to Addo Circular includes the President Hotel in Cape Town for four nights, Harbour House Hotel in Hermanus for one night, Madison Manor Boutique Hotel in Knysna for two nights, Zuurberg Mountain Village in Greater Addo for two nights, and Skeiding Guest Farm in the Overberg for two nights.

All accommodation venues and attractions on Southern Africa 360 tours have been inspected to ensure that they are accessible and disabled friendly. The company ensures that its itineraries detail these facts, so that potential travellers are able to make informed decisions.

“More needs to be to promote these types of tours to the international market. We have found that not everyone is familiar with the offerings in South Africa, and most also believe that these types of tours are out of reach for the average traveller, which we have found to be untrue,” adds Thaver.

Packages offered by Southern Africa 360 have been designed to cater for three-, four- and five-star client needs and, as there are varying levels and types of disabilities, Southern Africa 360 has designed tours suitable for blind and visually impaired visitors.
