Wesgro led a trade delegation to Singapore to showcase the best of our agri-processed Halal products at the Food and Hotel Asia. Running from 24-27 April 2018, the show was held at the Singapore Expo.

Internationally acclaimed, the Food and Hotel Asia trade show is in its 40th year of existence. Covering 119,500sqm of exhibition area and comprising 4,000 international exhibitors, the show features innovative food ingredients, Halal food and beverages, speciality coffee equipment and accessories, unique tea blends, the latest bakery equipment, tableware and furnishing, as well as disruptive technology for backend foodservice or frontend guest experience.

Acknowledging the Halal market as an important niche focus area, Wesgro CEO, Tim Harris, said: “Singapore has been a traditional hub for Western Cape products, we will use the trade show to unveil new product offerings as well as entice international buyers to visit Cape Town for our halal inward buying mission in mid-October 2018.”

Western Cape companies that participated include ButtaNutt Tree Nut Spreads, Danies Sauces and Enterprises, Good Hope International Beverages (Sa) (Pty) Ltd, Munch Bowls and newcomers Rush Nutrition Pty Ltd and Uber Flavour.

Western Cape Minister of Economic Opportunities, Alan Winde, added, “The Western Cape government’s Project Khulisa aims to grow the number of jobs in agriculture and agri-processing by 100 000 and has identified growing the province’s Halal export offerings as one of the ways to do this. The Asian market represents excellent and exciting potential for Western Cape businesses to grow their exports and the Singapore expo provides an excellent platform to do that.”

Harris added, “Singapore offers a unique opportunity for companies to access the ASEAN Region, a region that is rapidly growing and providing tremendous opportunities for our general exports. We will be looking to attract investors into our agribusiness sector and boost export agricultural goods through the showcasing of our products. Agriculture is a key component of the Western Cape economy and we are working hard, in line with our trade and investment mandate, to assist this sector.”

Mr Denan Kuni, Head of Wesgro International Trade, noted: “Sauces, beverages, teas and confectionary are among the range of products being promoted at Food and Hotel Asia. We welcome our international business partners and friends to come and visit the Western Cape Pavilion and the companies in Hall 9, stand number 9N3-01 at the Singapore Expo.”
