THE NUCLEUS OF THE EXHIBITIONS INDUSTRY IN SOUTH AFRICA

Sandton Convention Centre (SCC) has already hosted an impressive line-up of exhibitions last year and this trend is set to continue well into the future, with a number of local and international bookings confirmed up to 2013 and beyond. The number of new shows being staged at SCC is also increasing, which is a positive sign. The Facilities Show, Africa’s Finest Fishing Show, India Lifestyle Extravaganza and Beer Essentials are four very diverse new shows which are now part of SCC's line up for 2011.

The exhibitions industry in South Africa is enjoying renewed growth and this is evident if we look at the new players coming into the market and identifying niche markets with opportunity for growth.

Johannesburg is the country's top exhibitions venue, landing more than half the number of all exhibitions held in South Africa, and way ahead of rivals Cape Town and Durban. Research shows that of the 1 900 exhibitions held in South Africa every year, 51 percent are held in the Johannesburg area, with Cape Town taking 15 percent of exhibitions, and Durban coming in at 11 percent.

Highly specialised and experienced, SCC has continuously delivered astounding service to exhibition clients.  Multi-functional and international by standards, SCC provides more than 22 000m² of exhibition, convention and event space for its exhibitors.  It also comprises a Pavilion, a ballroom, 13 meeting rooms, and two exhibition levels with an integrated floor space of 10,000m², accommodating 500 3m x 3m stands in various configurations.  Each level has its own, independent and separate access route to street level docking and loading areas.

“For all exhibitions, SCC's team of highly trained professionals is on hand to offer world-class service and assist clients with each aspect of the exhibition from initial concept to the final de-rigging of the stands, as we continue to strive to deliver a service beyond our clients' expectations,” says Mati Nyazema, SCC's executive director.
