SANDTON CONVENTION CENTRE MAINTAINS ITS WINNING STREAK INTO 2013 AND BEYOND
What does the future hold for business tourism in Johannesburg? No need to look into a crystal ball..... Sandton Convention Centre has been busy locking business through an aggressive Beyond 2010 strategy. Continuously focussing on international and national bids, Sandton Convention Centre has gained the reputation of being the centre of business tourism for South Africa.
“We have already been appointed as the venue of choice for many international and national congresses, conferences and exhibitions in 2011, 2012 and 2013, such as The India Clothing and Textile Trade in 2011, International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists Congress in 2012, and The Fourth World Conference on Doping in Sport in late 2013, to name but a few”, says Mati Nyazema, executive director at Sandton Convention Centre.
“Our focus of building and sustaining partnerships to enhance the region’s offering is reaping benefits. We are grateful and proud to be associated with the Johannesburg Tourism Company and City of Johannesburg in presenting a dynamic destination for hosting world events,” adds Nyazema.
SCC demonstrated their international profile throughout the 2010 FIFA World Cup by hosting the 60th FIFA Congress and several other international events.
More recently in October 2010, SCC was a finalist for the ICCA Best Marketing Awards for their Project Diski campaign. ICCA is the International Congress and Convention Association. The 2010 ICCA Congress was held in Hyderabad India and attended by over 900 industry members.
SCC’s prime location is one of its biggest assets, as 74% of all South African corporate headquarters are housed in Johannesburg. SCCis located in the heart of Sandton’s hotel, business and entertainment district. The centre offers easy access to more than 5 000 hotel rooms (ranging from economy to deluxe), is linked via a sky bridge to some of the country’s premium shopping and entertainment complexes (Sandton City and Nelson Mandela Square), and provides 10 600 secure parking bays.
SCC offers unlimited potential with over 22 000m² of state-of-the-art meeting, exhibition and special event space. Purpose-built to international standards, the convention centre is able to host meetings, conferences, exhibitions and special events of virtually any size and nature. It offers some of the most advanced technology available for convention and exhibition centres anywhere in the world. SCC has become a venue of choice for discerning corporate clients, PCOs and event organisers.
SCC’s perfect medley of versatile venues has positioned it as the premier centre in the country over the past decade, evident in its long list of well known and loyal clients. “We are eager to keep building our reputation and South Africa and Johannesburg’s visibility in the global arena as a preferred business tourism destination and the Sandton Convention Centre as the premier venue of choice,” concludes Nyazema.
