On Friday, 20 August 2021, the Durban Chamber of Commerce, and Industry NPC accompanied by the eThekwini Municipality hosted the Nelson Mandela Foundation delegation site visit. The Nelson Mandela foundation was held in KwaZulu-Natal for a two-day site visit to areas, schools and businesses following the unrest aftermath.
Hulamin – Pietermaritzburg has worked with the Nelson Mandela Foundation on the “Each One Feed One Programme”, in the delivery of food parcels to schools that were vandalised during the unrest. Over and above the food parcel delivery to schools, the Foundation reached out to the Durban Chamber of Commerce to facilitate a site visit to some of the businesses that were vandalised during the unrest in July.
The foundations’ main objective with this visit was to assess the damage caused by the unrest and to engage in an informative dialogue on the City’s recovery plan and execution.
